Emmanuel Analike, the CEO of NetNaija, has become a focal point in the ongoing battle against digital piracy. On March 4, 2026, he was arraigned by the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) on multiple counts of copyright infringement.
Recent Developments
During the court proceedings held at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Analike pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include possession, reproduction, and distribution of pirated movies and music. The prosecution, led by Gladys Isaac-Ojo, asserted that Analike engaged in activities related to online piracy, violating Section 44 (1) (a) of the Copyright Act, 2022.
As a result of the arraignment, Analike was remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre. His lawyer, Nnemeka Ejiofor, indicated that a bail application had been filed, supported by 23 paragraphs of affidavits and a written address. The bail ruling is set for March 9, 2026.
Analike expressed his stance in court, stating, “I plead not guilty to the charges preferred against me.” This case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the Nigerian film industry, which has lost an estimated 18 million dollars annually to piracy.
