Lyrics have long been a crucial element of music, serving not only as a means of storytelling but also as a form of poetry. Recently, artists like Jack White and Taylor Swift have brought renewed attention to the importance of lyrics in their work.

Jack White’s new book, titled Jack White Complete Lyrics & Selected Writing Volume 1, encompasses every song he has written outside of The White Stripes, along with poems and writings, representing over 30 years of his artistic journey. White asserts, “I think all music is the blues and I think all lyrics are poetry,” emphasizing the poetic nature of songwriting.

White began his writing career as a teenager in coffee houses in Hamtramck, Detroit, where he started crafting poems. He believes that many singers’ lyrics are often overlooked, stating, “For every singer the lyrics are overlooked in my opinion.” His upcoming album, No Name, set to release in 2024, includes a highlight based on a letter from a travelling evangelist in the 1970s, showcasing his unique storytelling approach.

On the other hand, Taylor Swift’s lyrics resonate with fans and are frequently used as social media captions, particularly those that capture themes of spring. Her ability to connect with listeners through relatable storytelling has solidified her status as a leading lyricist in the music industry.
