“This is the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative. He believes it is time for the university to embrace modern ways of doing things,” stated Dr. Victoria Gbadegesin, reflecting the forward-thinking approach of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE). The university has recently commenced online examinations for its part-time studies program, a move that aims to align its academic practices with global standards and improve operational efficiency.

The introduction of online examinations is a significant milestone for FUOYE, as it marks the first time the institution has implemented such a system. The initiative is designed to run for one month, with examinations scheduled daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. This new approach is not only expected to streamline the examination process but also to enhance the overall student experience.

Professor Adelani Tijani, a key figure in the implementation of this system, expressed optimism about the transition, saying, “We are just pioneering this system, and to the glory of God, it is progressing smoothly.” The university has also established strict monitoring mechanisms to prevent examination malpractice, which has been a persistent issue in traditional paper-based exams.

Dr. Oyeleke Abiodun noted the positive impact of the new system, stating, “The level of examination malpractice has reduced significantly compared to what is obtainable in paper-based exams.” This reduction is a crucial factor in maintaining the integrity of academic assessments and ensuring that students are evaluated fairly.

In addition to the online examination initiative, FUOYE has opened postgraduate admissions for the 2026/2027 academic session, with a focus on attracting qualified candidates. The application fee for postgraduate admission is set at 20,000 Naira, and prospective students must meet specific score requirements to be considered for various programs. For instance, a minimum score of 60 is required for Ph.D. admission, while 55 is necessary for M.Phil/Ph.D. candidates.

Moreover, the university has outlined the duration for its Master’s degree programs, which ranges from a minimum of 18 months to a maximum of 24 months. Ph.D. programs require a minimum of three sessions and can extend up to five sessions, reflecting the institution’s commitment to rigorous academic standards.

As FUOYE continues to innovate and adapt to modern educational practices, it is clear that the leadership, under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor, is dedicated to enhancing the quality of education provided. “We deeply appreciate the Vice-Chancellor for this initiative. He has a clear vision and good plans for the university,” added Professor Tijani, emphasizing the collective support for these transformative changes.

With the successful launch of online examinations and the opening of postgraduate admissions, FUOYE is poised to make significant strides in the academic landscape. The university’s efforts to modernize its examination processes are expected to yield positive outcomes, not only for the institution but also for its students, who will benefit from a more efficient and secure assessment environment.
