JOB responsibility of a farm Attendant

Position Overview

Maplewood Farm is currently looking to hire an Auxiliary employee to perform routine maintenance, custodial and public contact work of some variety. The incumbent feeds, handles, and cares for domestic farm animals and birds and maintains enclosures, farm buildings, facilities, and grounds. In addition, the incumbent provides information to the public about the farm and may be required to assist with cashiering and other related tasks.

The successful applicant must possess:

  • Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for the care and feeding of the farm’s animals and birds;
  • Sound knowledge of the rules governing public conduct on the farm;
  • Working knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in maintaining grounds and buildings;
  • Ability to handle animals and birds safely and to carry out a variety of tasks and procedures related to their care;
  • Ability to perform a variety of unskilled grounds, maintenance, and repair tasks;
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public;
  • Ability to understand and carry out work according to oral instructions and to work with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to provide training and direction to others;
  • Ability to facilitate public engagement events and children’s programs;
  • Ability to complete non-complex forms and reports;
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment used in the work.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting a healthy and safe workplace

Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10, plus some experience in working with animals, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some cashiering and basic keyboarding experience would be an asset.

Hours of work for these positions may be any day of the week and may vary between the hours of 6:30 am-8 pm.

Compensation

The pay for this unionized position is $30.21 per hour (2021 rates) plus 12% in lieu of all benefits.
